SAN BERNARDINO, CA (July 15, 2021) – San Bernardino County Assessor-Recorder-Clerk Bob Dutton signed the 2021 Annual Property Assessment Roll that surpasses, for the first time in the county’s history, a quarter of a trillion dollars in assessed value.
The 2021 San Bernardino County Assessment Roll contains 888,830 parcels valued at $264,037,870,464, which is a 6.5% net increase as compared to the 2020 Assessment Roll. Upon his signature, Assessor-Recorder Dutton delivered the 2021 Assessment Roll to Ensen Mason, San Bernardino County’s Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector.
“As County Assessor, my philosophy has been to ensure property owners in San Bernardino County get a square deal,” said Assessor-Recorder Bob Dutton. “For over a decade now, San Bernardino County has maintained a steady increase in property valuations reflecting increased sale transactions, new construction projects, and continued market value increases in residential and various commercial markets. I would like to thank my team for their hard work in closing the roll and their commitment to providing excellent customer service, especially during these unprecedented times.”
The assessment roll reflects the total gross assessed value of locally assessed real, business, and personal property in San Bernardino County as of the previous lien date of January 1st. State law requires county assessors to discover all assessable property, inventory and list all taxable property, to value the property, apply all legal exemptions/exclusions, and to enroll the property on the annual local assessment roll.
Highlights from the San Bernardino County 2021 Assessment Roll:
• San Bernardino County set a record high of over $264 billion in assessed value.
• The Assessor qualified 238,674 homeowners for over $16 million in property tax savings from the Homeowners’ Exemption.
• 4,255 San Bernardino County disabled veterans qualified for the Disabled Veterans’ Exemption and received over $5.9 million in property tax savings.
• 4,292 welfare institutions (schools, churches, museums, and non-profits) received over $86 million in property tax savings.
• City of Ontario has the highest assessed value at $32 billion, followed by the cities of Rancho Cucamonga ($30 billion), and Fontana ($23 billion).
• City of Colton, valued at $4.4 billion, had the largest assessment value increase, adding $481 million from 2020, a 12.1% increase.
• Incorporated cities as a total are valued at $224 billion, a 6.6% increase.
• Unincorporated areas are valued at $39 billion, a 5.9% increase.
